Product Description
Chipboard Screws, as the name suggests, these screws can be used when doing general DIY work with chipboard and other softer types of woods. Unlike the Cut screws, they do not have the Type 17 cutting point and, therefore, require pilot holes, drilled 2mm smaller than the size of screw used.
Head Type
Regardless of a screws material, size or length, the shape of its head has a significant impact in how well it works in any particular application. Head designs can be divided into two groups: those that sink flush with the work surface and those that stand proud of it.
Flat head screws have heads designed to automatically sink flush in all but the hardest materials (e.g., rosewood, ebony). Most flat head production screws are self-countersinking: they create their own recess that allows the head to sit flush.
Full thread version
Used when fixing metal to wood. Unlike smooth shank screws, when driving in full thread screws, the top material cannot move along the shank. Instead, it is held in place by the threads.
The Point
A good screw point bites into non-pilot-drilled surfaces rapidly, pulling the screw down quickly and creating an entry hole for the screws shank and threads.This needle-sharp point penetrates even the hardest materials and your fingers, so be careful when handling them!
Plating and Coatings
In the final step of manufacturing, most steel wood screws receive some kind of plating (a metallurgical process done to bare metal screws) or coating (applied to either bare metal screws or already-plated screws). Screws are plated and/or coated for three reasons:
